Support Plan: “Grandparents, Jesus Loves You”
The church cannot remain indifferent to the loneliness and forgetfulness experienced by many older adults. This plan is born from the conviction that the church should be present where there is need, bringing the love, dignity and comfort of Christ to older adults in nursing homes and in their homes.
1. Main Objectives
- Emotional and Spiritual Support: combat loneliness through regular visits, active listening, prayer and Scripture reading.
- Community Presence: establish partnerships with local nursing homes and identify older adults experiencing abandonment in the community.
- Ministry Inclusion: help older adults know that they remain a valuable part of the body of Christ and God’s purpose.
Nursing Home Visits
Afternoons with mate, classic Christian music, short Bible readings and one-on-one prayer.
Every two weeks / Monthly
Letters and Acts of Love
Letters written by church children, useful gifts and cards with biblical promises.
Every visit
Home Visits
Visiting church members and older adults in the neighborhood who cannot travel.
Weekly
Special Celebrations
Birthday gatherings, holidays and brief services with Communion.
Quarterly
IMPLEMENTATION PHASES
- Recruitment and Training: recruit volunteers and train them in appropriate care, empathy and nursing-home safety.
- Institutional Partnerships: contact nursing-home directors, present the project and coordinate days and times.
- Visit Implementation: begin with small volunteer groups to share music, conversation and prayer.
- Evaluation and Follow-Up: hold monthly meetings to share testimonies, assess needs and adjust activities.
